Random Thoughts Giveaway

I am not a writer. As you can see by my picture filled blog posts each week. I wish I could write in a more clever and humorous way. I have a lot of things to say. Random thoughts. But I don't know if a blog reader would be interested in randomness like that. Today I thought I'd share an excerpt from one of my favorite books of all time. This book is the epitome of randomness.

Encyclopedia of an Ordinary Life by Amy Krouse Rosenthal

This kind of reminds me of my relationship a little. Joe and I do this all the time. And I never thought about it until I read this. It's so funny!

" LOVE
If you really love someone, you want to know what they ate for lunch or dinner without you.
Hi, sweetie, how was your day, what did you have for lunch? Or if your mate was out of town on business: How was your trip, did the meeting go well, what did you do for dinner? Jason will stumble home in the wee hours from a bachelor party, and as he crawls into bed I'll pry myself from sleep long enough to mumble, how was the party, how was the restaurant beforehand? The meal that has no bearing on the relationship appears to be breakfast. I can love you and not know that when you were in Cincinnati last Wednesday you had yogurt and a bagel."

Leave a comment of some RANDOM THOUGHTS, and I'll draw a random winner SUNDAY August 17th. Here's your prize:

  1. You know, I really think that 'Ferris Bueller's Day Off' was under-rated as a teen classic. I mean, I LOVE that movie, still do to this day, some 20 years after it was released. Lots of great lines to quote and the start of a great career for Matthew Broderick. Anyway, that's just my random thought for the day.

  2. I had to laugh at the paragraph about love because I can definitely relate to it also! Although in my relationship it is only one sided - I always want to know what he ate when he is away, but he doesn't seem to care what I've ate! (I tell him anyways!) I also never ask about breakfast, probably because I know he always has cereal, whether he is at home or at a hotel :)

I was randomly surfing the web, something I do way too often, and came across some funny quotes from children. The blog I found them on does not list a source, but I believe they are from Art Linkletter, who is famous for interviewing children on aspects of life on his show. The one quote I liked is:

The Great Debate: Is It Better To Be Single Or Married?

"It's better for girls to be single, but not for boys. Boys need somebody to clean up after them." (Lynette, 9)

"It gives me a headache to think about that stuff. I'm just a kid. I don't need that kind of trouble." (Kenny, 7)

I cheated at little, as these are not my own random thoughts, but rather, I thought I would share some random chuckles!

Thanks for the contest - and a peak at your juicy looking bracelet...drool...

  3. Oooooh, pretty bracelet. My brain is pretty empty these days-- Not many random thoughts up there.

Started a book "The Joy of the Snow" recently. I am hoping to get it read by winter! I keep getting distracted by other things~~~

  5. I am always looking for a good read!

I never ask about food, just about people. When Mark comes home from wherever, the first thing I ask is "how is so-and-so" he will say "fine". Meanwhile I will talk to "so-and-so's wife" the next day and find out they had just had a new baby. This happens all the time in our house.

  6. My dad is a very quiet man, we don't have long philosophical discussions. But every once in a while he'll take an interest in something going on in my life and ask a few questions. Unfortunatly he forgets the answers the second he walks away, and proceeds to ask me the same questions OVER AND OVER for weeks. Sometimes years. The other day after I frustratingly answered a repeat question (with attitude) and he smirked at me. It was then I realized, while he does truly forget most of what I say, sometimes he's just messing with me. And sometimes, he just can't think of anything else to talk about, but is attempting to have a conversation with me.

Knowing this, I STILL want to pull out my hair.

P.S. I LOVE the colors of the beads used in this one! How gorgeous! It reminds me of Koolaid...

It must be a female thing, for us to just blurt random things out. Is it our "gift of gab?"

I blurt random things out all the time. My husband will be busy with whatever (reading, writing, cooking, etc.) and I just out of the blue will say something having to do with nothing in particular.

Of course can I think of anything right now that I've said? No! LOL

I get a look and sometimes he'll say "I have absolutely no idea what your talking about or what you are referencing."

Sheepishly, I try to explain my comment.

I often wonder what our retirement years will be like. Me spilling out random thoughts, him looking at me with a questionable look. Ahhhh, the good life!

I have to get that book.

  8. As one of the more "mature" ladies
that reads your blog, I speak most of my random thoughts to my dog Bailey. She's the best listener.
Once in a while my husband will look at me and ask if I was talking to him, are you kidding?
I guess we just talk to hear ourselves...like CSerdan I will never hear the good stuff from Geary...but it must be working because we've managed 32 years together.

  9. Oh no...that didn't look totally right...lol! By mature, I meant older...I hope you ladies know that...(am I blushing from embaressment-yes)

  10. "What'd you eat?" always, always, always. He'll tell me about the meeting, then tell me about the lunch.

Here I thought it was just us. Good.

It's like when you're in a restaurant and you ask everyone else what they're going to order. Like you can't decide without knowing!

  12. So, we are totally addicted to "LOST". I know. It's been on for forever and we just started watching. What's up with the monster in the jungle? Just when you think you are getting nowhere they throw you a bone. Infuriating! And while were being random... can I just say that our next door neighbor love to play his trumpet at 2 am. It sounds like he's playing the "Woman, Woman, Whoa-Man" song from "So, I Married An Axe Murder". He's gonna get a knuckle sandwich. Must be nice to be retired.

    Great bracelet! Cherries a go-go!

My son who is 3 years old, is a master at random thoughts. I think most 3-year olds are. He goes to a chreche everyday, and if and when he remembers something that he really enjoyed at school, he'll tell me as if it happened today. But i do love those chatters so much! It's a tell-tale of him starting to think logically about life, and time-line and so on.... they grow up so fast!

  15. We have some friends that love to eat out, and whenever we go on a trip and tell them about it, they always ask 'what did you eat - how was the food' - like when we went on a airplane to Ireland, and saw lots of things and had photos and mementos we brought home to share, and the first thing they asked was 'how was the food on the airplane' - we just laughed about that one. Not -'what did you see, where did you go' but 'how was the airplane meal.' We still laugh about it.

Love the bracelet, looks like candy, lemondrops and jolly ranchers.

So funny! I ask my husband what he's eaten for lunch nearly every day. I think it's a habit now.

  17. Here is a totaly random thought that will make you go Huh?
As sure as night follows day,
    Manure follows hay.
We have horses and my husband was recently referred to as "The poop guy". I guess that could be considered a random thought too. I better stop. This is what my mind does all day long!!!

This random stuff is so funny! Ok, what came to my mind was something that happens a lot at my house. I'll be going on and on to my husband about something that happened that day and after my way to long version, my husband will look at me and say...what? Like he didn't hear a word I just said. My kids (I have four) always break into laughter. Your work is just lovely. I read your blog daily. Thanks.

  20. I never really understood the concept of holding off plans you've made because of bad weather. I mean really, I can't live my life like that! I refuse to put my life on hold because of a drop of rain. I'm not going to melt. And besides, they're always wrong anyway. Like yesterday, it was supposed to rain and it did for a little while. Left for the beach anyway, got to the beach, the sun was out and it was beautiful all day long!

I have been away from home for 3 weeks now for my job. I can't wait to go to Chicago to see my sweetie and then will head home.

I read your blog everyday! I look to your blog for inspiration.

  22. I never have to ask what he's eaten. Half of the time, I'm picking it off his plate, or vice-versa. Or I bring it to him.

I just realized that, that being said, we're probably "close" on an unhealthy level. When I've got something to say, I'll just come into the bathroom and talk to him while he's sitting on the toilet. That just isn't right. Toilet time is alone time. I want him to leave me alone when I'm reading a mystery on the toilet. That's the only time you can really focus.

We were at his aunt and uncle's this Christmas, and sitting in his aunt's bathroom. His aunt was right outside putting her son to bed and... her face... when we came out.
She's got to think we're weird.
    We're not that weird.

Yesterday, I moved my kids rooms around, because my 2 sons are getting so big, they need the bigger room. What a task! So with my daughter's bed in a different room and bed in a different direction she told me last night that it felt so "weird". When I went to wake her up this morning, she was lying on her stomach, sideways in her twin bed with her legs bent up at the knees, and her head against the wall. That's the direction she would have been lying in her old room. It made me ponder if we have an inner compass, that in her sleep she thought she was the wrong way, so turned like that. Hmmm.
