Light Box

I've been so disappointed with my pictures of my jewelry lately due to it being so dark in the mornings. I usually create pieces the night before and then photograph them, and edit the pics and list the items in the morning. Tonight is daylight savings but I know the bright mornings won't really last and I thought it would be nice to have a back-up system. My friend Maggie gave me this link that shows how to build your own light box. So I got all the supplies and Joe helped me put it all together last night. I'm quite pleased with how it turned out.

Now I just have to figure out where I'm going to put this enormous thing! Eventually I will be taking the daybed out of my craft room and get another table in there. Today I think I'll hunt down the card table and set this up in the office temporarily.

I also want to find some pieces of tile and slate to use as my backgrounds. I tried Lowe's but everything was either out of reach(the grey that I wanted) or not open. Should have asked for some help but I'll go sometime this weekend. Maybe check out Home Depot.
Here is a picture- before and after the lightbox use.

before- using natural light

After- using the light box.
Nothing compares to the natural light but the light box is a good second option in case it's too dark, or rainy.
Hope this post was helpful for blog readers!! Have a good weekend!

  1. I always have liked your photos, but you have definitely increased your range now. Since I have to do a lot of picture snapping at pre-dawn hours, I have a rigged setup with natural light bulbs that helps me get a look of natural light before the sun comes up! But if you use those learn something from my mistake - those bulbs get really hot so keep arms and hands away when they're on - ouch! Great necklace too, love the colors.

  5. I have to say that your photos are always great, but I know what you mean about being held hostage by the natural light. What's funny for me is how the seasons can affect the photos too when using natural light. How summer photos have less shadow and winter ones are all shadow! The necklace is adorable!

Thanks for sharing that. It's something I would definitely use to photograph my sculptures.
