Use the Muse
So remember back when I told you I was going to participate in the Use the Muse contest? Well they finally had the big reveal yesterday. You know, I entered but to be honest, I really wasn't sold on my creation. I doubted it. And it definitely didn't live up to the standards of some of the amazing entries.
I had the most fun flipping through to see everyone's submissions and I was thrilled to see people there that I knew, like Katie Nelson (who I met on the cruise!) and Andrew Thornton and Debbie from Prairie Emporium, Mary Harding, Melissa Lee, and Cristi of 2ifbysea. I wasn't a winner, but it was fun using elements that I normally don't use like seed beads, and crystals, and teensy tiny beads.
I struggled with putting something together, and I felt like I HAD to use the little beads, although I know I didn't officially have to, something told me that I HAD to. It was weird, and I can't explain it but now that I see all the entries I wished I had used a bit more from my own bead stash. The lampwork glass rings that I used are from Blue Seraphim. They were the perfect color with the other crystals and pearls that were in the kit.So anyway, here is my entry- Plum Opulence.

ReplyDeleteI like it too, Lorelei. What is interesting to me is that you used components that you wouldn't normally use, but the piece comes out identifiable as yours. It is really a very elegant piece.

ReplyDeleteI think it's beautiful and very wearable! I'm like you, I usually like earthy, casual jewelry you can wear everyday. But, it is nice to have some pieces that are a little dressier for going out to a fancy dinner or some special occasion. I always feel like I am scrambling when occasions like that arises. "Ack! I don't have anything to wear and Ack! I don't have any jewelry to wear either!" This necklace is perfect for those dressier occasions!

ReplyDeleteI like what you've made! You should be proud of it! You know, my favorite part is the "little bead" part that you don't like. It reminds me of vines and the tracery of lines in stain glass windows. It's nice.
ReplyDeleteI would love to see this technique taken even further, weaving together dozens of strands and vines. If you did decide to do that and use the same Swarovski elements, you could enter it into the K. Gottfried contest or the Swarovski Create Your Style competition.
Oh, Lorelei! I absolutely love it! When I was scrolling through all the designs, I stopped at yours without even knowing it was yours because it caught my eye! I just love your designs. I agree with Andrew. I love the "little bead" vine part the best. It is so delicate and stunning! There were lots of over-the-top designs in the competition, but yours is one that is very wearable and very gorgeous! You should be proud!

Lorelei-It really is lovely. I participated too, my entry was titled "The Invitation" and I had a great time being inspired by the pieces in the kit. I chose not to use as much of the seed beads but most of the pearls and crystals. I liked that we all had the same prompt and materials. So fun to be a part of it. I am intrigued by all the great styles out there! Enjoy the day!
