Trial Run

Today I decided to give my display a trial run, for next weekend's craft show that I'm doing. I borrowed a couple of things from my friends over at Beaded Bird. They have a new display going for their upcoming shows so they let me use some of their "bird" related items, some table risers, and table top risers, mirror and earring rack. Plus I got this really cool old rustic wooden mini "bench" from Patty too.
So I cleared off one of my tables in the studio and set up my first table. I don't have table cloths yet, but will be getting them this weekend...and I didn't set it up with the lamps, but I'll be using 2 tall lamps from my dining room.

I hope it all looks cohesive. I don't really have a theme going here, but was just rooting around the house to find cool props. Found this light green plate that was my Grandmother's.... a couple of old cigar boxes, and my driftwood from my trip to Amesbury Mass., this summer.

I love how my second table turned out. I used one of our old leaded windows that Joe just removed from our Dining room to put in our replacement windows. I am planning on hanging this beauty on chains on the porch in the Spring but in the meantime, it makes a pretty cool
jewelry display!

I also found a nice wooden box, my wrought iron bird jewelry display, a metal tray, and a cool bronze Owl sculpture that I got from Patty. This table is a bit lighter but I still have a whole week of jewelry creations ahead of me so it shouldn't be hard to fill this one up. I put some of my Chain Style postcards, Open House post cards, and business cards on this table as well.

What do you think? I took little videos too so you could see the whole thing in action. That empty frame there, I plan on filling with some sort of signage. I don't really have a logo or anything so I'm not quite sure what I'll use but I'm sure I'll come up with something. With an owl on it I'm sure.

  5. The window is great. The design seems made for displaying your necklaces. I am sure your setup will bring in many customers. Have a great time and lots of success.

  6. Looks great Lorelei. I like all the height variation. I find at markets that that really pulls people in. It can be difficult to grab peoples attention with smaller items like jewelry and the height variation helps as long as props don't overwhelm the jewels and yours don't. You will be surprised how cohesive it all becomes when you drape the tables. I hope you'll show us pics when the show is installed. What I did for a quick logo was take a photo of a bunch of buttons beads, etc. Turn it into black and white high contrast. Oh this is getting complicated. But it was a very quick thing to do and it's what people recognize me by now. Email me if you want more info. Good luck with everything!

  7. That leaded window is PERFECT! I love using things that weren't meant to be jewelry displays -- yet there's a fine line between the display being more creative than the jewelry. You have it spot on.

  8. Looks wonderful! My tables are stil a work in progress. I can easily fill up three tables with all the stuff I have. I also have that bird jewelry rack, Pier1 for me, U? I stocked up and got three of them and they had other ones before that one an earring one and necklace ones. I have a total of six and it was the best investment ever!! Love your window, wish I could find something like that. I am working on some wood bi-fold doors that I plan on hanging some metal scroll wall hangings to put necklaces on. Hope it works out!!

  9. Hey L!
Every thing looks great! Will you be covering your black table top risers with a cloth as well? I bought a smaller table cloth in the same fabric to cover my risers. I found that created a nice cohesive look. If you are ever looking for more display pieces, I've found some great things to use at Marshall's and Home Goods. I found a wood piece that I use for necklaces and a tree tealight holder that I use to display earrings on.
That window is very cool! Love the that wooden bench and the drift wood looks great! :) And you have a theme. Natural Vintage! Your display pieces represent your style perfectly! Make more earring! Earring always do really great at shows in my experience.

  10. Love the leaded glass window. The blank frame reminded me of something I plan on doing for my next set up. I have one of those digital photo frames. I got it with my etsy money. It is a Kodak one so not so expensive. I use it for family photos but I also have a section for photos of my jewelry and I thought I could set it up at the next art show . If you have access to electricity or you get one that can be battery operated this could be a neat way to showcase other items you've made. Have fun at your show.

  11. Thanks everyone!! I am feeling so much more confident about the show now. I will be covering those black table risers with table coverings, just so you know.
I'm hoping I can find something really neutral like gray or khaki table cloths.
I am sooo glad I thought of using that window. I think that will definitely be the highlight of my display. Hmmm, wonder if I should light it somehow?

I agree with everyone...your display looks wonderful. I know I would be drawn to it and hustle right over if I were at the show! And that window is my favorite part of it all!

  13. It looks awesome! I think all the things you've chosen really complement and enhance the style of your jewelry. It's all very "you." Good job and I'm sure you'll do well at the show!

  14. It all looks great! What a wonderful idea to use the old window. Those necklaces fit perfectly. And I like how it's all laid out so you can see all the details rather than being hung on a rack. Good luck with your show!

Unique in its simplicity. I am partial to black so love the black boxes. The leadlighting is a different approach.

  19. I have a mish mosh display of cool vintage-y things like that. I LOVE the window and how it frames each piece! Maybe you could put a string of Christmas lights around the perimetr, on the underside, to illuminate it? or lay some pretty fabric under just under the window part to differentiate it? Best table cloths? Twin sized black sheets. And this year I bought those plastic bed risers to bring the tables up about 6 inches which made a HUGE difference. You go girl! Enjoy the day!

  20. Ooooh Erin! Love that idea of the string of lights tucked underneath the window to under-light it. BRILLIANT! I'll test that out and see how that looks.
    Thanks for the tips!!

It really draws you in. I just want to go and touch everything. Display is GREAT! Or maybe it's your jewelry that makes the displays look great
