  1. My mom is the most influential and inspirational person for our jewelry design (though she will say it is both of us). My metals and ceramics professors come in a close second to mom.
Your giveaway birthday week has been awesome Lorelei. I hope you also had a great birthday week!
    Have a great weekend!

  2. I don't really have one special designer to name. I always try to get some inspiration from diffent people, and also from totally different fields (arts and everything apart from jewelry).

  6. I like to look at jewelery magazines for inspiration, as well as design ideas on bead store websites (Fusion Beads, eebeads, etc). I find the ABS monthly challenge to be a good source of creative inspiration. In terms of specific designers, I would have to say that you have been a big influence (not just saying this because it is your blog) - your use of asymmetrical design, copper and art beads have inspired me to branch out over the last year.

  7. I don't know who I would consider an inspiration to me...As far as the seed bead side of my brain goes, Marcia DeCoster and Beverly Herman are favorites of mine - I love how Marcia can play and come up with ideas, and I like what Beverly does...

As far as everything else goes, I don't have any one particular influence. I have people I admire (you among them) for having such a unique voice in what they make...

So, for me, I think it's more of an admiration of people for finding their niche in the beading world and staking a claim out there...That's what I aspire to...

  8. I'm inspired by all those beautiful designers who share their ideas all over the net. To browse the great blogs about jewelry and crafting is so much fun. regards Stefanie

  11. Congrats to Kerry! Well now this book sounds interesting.... I would have to say I am most inspired by the ancient and the primitive. One of my favorite books is the History of Beads and I love looking through it over and over and over:)

  12. Hi and Happy Birthday again to you Lorelei! That book looks like a great one to have in my bead library!
I would have to say that my mother had inspired me first, then Deb Moffett-Hall and then Robin Atkins, Nicole Campanella, Sherry Serafini and a few more artists and designers. I hope that you have a wonderful weekend!
    Hugs and happy beading...

  16. Wow, what a great question, I really had to think about it. I suppose my inspiration comes from many directions. I especially enjoy looking through books and magazines.

  17. Not sure if your giveaways are open to Canadian but I have been looking all week with envy at the books you have been offerings and they are all beautiful and inspiring. I find inspiration in all places, mostly looking at what other designers have done and try to use that as a direction for my designs. I have only been designing jewerlery for 1 1/2 years and I love it. If I am eligible I would love to be entered in your giveaway.

  20. ohhh. This is the book I've been waiting for. I'm inspired by those who use the unconventional in unexpected ways...I really love Nina Bagley for this reason. I also pull from old/antique designs and lately am inspired by using what I have to make do....making a conscious effort to look around in the studio and make something without buying any supplies.

  21. most influential designer for me is Ayala Bar, although you would probably never guess that from my work. jewelry inspiration is often found through regular browsing of beading mags like stringing, Sundance catalog jewelry, and etsy, among others.

  25. Oh bother I forgot to leave a comment in the last giveaway but won't make that mistake again.

The jewellery designers (because there is no way I could pick 1 person) that I draw most inspiration from would Shannon of Missficklemedia (her metal work is pure magic, oh to be as good as her oneday is my wish),

Mariedodd (work comes across so serene and effortless, plus her words of wisdom always leaves me feeling good about myself)

and of course you Lorelei (your openess in the way you create and present your work and you life leaves me feeling good with the world, even when I don't have time to read blogs I always make time to read yours and thats the God honest truth).

Thank you for giving us these chances to win these books, wishing you a great weekend.

  28. At this point in my life, you are the most inspirational designer to me. You really make me "think outside the box." And that is what I have been wanting to do for some time. Thanks for the great blog!

  29. Hmmnnn, that's a tough question! I do love ABS as a constant source of inspiration, as well as all the talented designers published in jewelry magazines, including you, Lorelei! Also, Barbara Lewis for enameling, and Deryn Mentock for her cold connection and resin work. Great Birthday giveaway, you celebrate big!

  31. I often gain inspiration from catalogues like Coldwater Creek, Anthropologie, or Sundance . One of my favorite designers on Sundance is Jes MaHarry and of course I love following your blog.

  32. My recent taste in bead embroidery definitely has a lot to do with Sherry Serafini - her work is amazing!I am also influenced by artists such as Hundertwasser, Klimt, Gaudi, Kandinsky...especially by their use of colour.

Book looks fab! Please put me in the hat.

  33. I am very very new at jewelry making, so the artist I know, other than you, is Linda Peterson, as I picked up her book at the book store called "Beading in no time". Looking forward to look up other artists that can give me a bit of direction into my own creativity...

    ReplyDelete
  34. Well, a wonderful early inspiration was Stephanie Lee who showed me a way to make reworked vintage jewelry without making it overly girly or frilly. I really responded to that.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Cool book! I can't name just one designer that has influenced my work. I love browsing the web and flipping through my books and magazines, but in the end it's the beads that tell me where they want to go.

  36. Well???? That's a tough question as I like so many different deisgner and styles. It seems I'm ever changing and always looking for inspiration from many talented jewelry designers. I would say for me it's from the beauty of the creative minds of the designers out there on the web that are willing to share their beautiful designs and design secrets...you being high on my list.

I think the blog inspiration challenges and contests are the best way to bring out ones creative side.

Love your blog, wonderful fun giveways and gengerous heart!!!

  38. Sorry I missed this one!
I am move inspired by the beads themselves, but art beads have a bit of the artist in them, do they not?
I love Heather Powers Humblebeads, Jennifer Heynen's Jangles, Kerry Bogert's KAB'S Concepts. I also am in love with Beth Hemilla's Hint charms and just got my first. I have discovered a glass artist from Germany that is to die for (and who I will be meeting in person next month!). I also love Green Girl Studios, Mamacita, Lynn Davis and Joan Miller. I have not met an art bead I didn't like (and my hoarding is out of control).
    Enjoy the day!
