The Juggler Giveaway!

My friend Sab is the owner/proprietor of beadbead.biz. You may be familiar with her super successful bead shop on etsy, BeadBead. Sab has a wonderful assortment of beads, and I can attest that they are super fabulous. She has donated $20 worth of beads for a giveaway on my blog!!  That is like 11 packets of beads!
NOT ONLY THAT! BUT!! The beads directly correlate with this month's Art Bead Scene Challenge painting, The Juggler by Marc Chagall.
You can see the beads above, but to get a better look, head over to Sab's website and there are links to each of the bead selections!

Leave a comment on this blog post.... ASK ME ANYTHING

I will do my best to answer any questions posed. Here's  your chance! Curious about my blog? Shop? Pictures? Jewelry? What do you know wanna know about me that I haven't talked about here?  Questions about techniques? Ask away!!  I'll write up a separate post with all of your questions and my answers, after the giveaway is over.

I will pick a random winner on Tuesday May 11.  I will then forward your information to Sab so that she can send you  your winning LOT OF BEADS!! Then, get busy and go enter your design into the ABS challenge!

  1. Woo hoo! Who doesn't love beads?!?! :-)

Okay, that's not really my question... My question is about your photographs. I love the angles you have, and how you show off just the right part of your jewelry. Have any tips you can share?

  2. Well how fun is that! You have the best friends, Lorelei!

Where would you like to see your beading success take you in one year? five years? ten years?

What is the one tool that you cannot live without? What is the one tool that you wish you had?

If you were suddenly told that you would only be able to work with one type of bead (i.e., glass, pearls, gemstones, etc) for the rest of your life, what would it be and why?

    Inquiring minds want to know!

    Enjoy the day, Lorelei!

  3. You have a very unique style. How would you describe it? How did it develop? Were your early pieces similar in style or has your style changed a lot? Did you expect to get so well known in the bead world? What is that like?

  4. I'm curious to know how and why your beading jewelery journey started. What other crafts have you done in the past and did they lead you to where you are now? those beds look divine.

  6. Do your design ideas come to you as "visions", and then you get to work on it. Or do your jewelry pieces sort of evolve by selecting beads you want to use and arrange and rearrange. Do you know almost exactly what you're going to make before you start? I highly admire your taste in bead selection, design, color choice, creativity, etc.! It is fun to look at your jewelry!! :)

  11. Glad you had such a fun time with Kerry, loved your video, would love to have a close up of the last ring made, the red one, it was great.

I was wondering where I can find on your site the instructions for making the bracelet on waxed cord that goes around the wrist a couple or three times and can be worn as a necklace. Saw it once a long time ago and never found it again.

  12. What a great opportunity to ask you questions! Here goes:

    1. I have the opportunity to buy Lindstrom tools - would you buy them? Yes or no, please explain.

    2. What kind of cord do you use the most? What helps you decide when you to use cord, chain, or beading wire?

    3. Do you wear much of your own jewelry to work? What kind of comments do you get?

I could go on, but better stop here.

    Thanks for this opportunity.

Hi Lorelei. I'm a huge admirer of your work. My question for you is can you show us a picture of your bead stash? You always use the coolest art beads. I'd love to see what you have waiting to be made into something pretty. :-) Thanks!

  15. Lorelei, I really need these beads. I can't buy any right now and I get really shaky and confused if I can't get new beads.

    Here is my question for you;
Do you have any character flaws? Or are you really this perfect? I mean, are you always so nice and funny and understanding and successful and relate-able?

    Should we ask Joe?

  19. Hmmm....this is tough. I feel like I already know you so well just from your blog and stuff, even though we've never met! I guess I just wonder how you find so much time to bead. Do you ever feel uninspired and not want to make jewelry? I really admire how you find time to work full-time, blog at least every day, make amazing jewelry and list and sell it all on Etsy! Maybe you should write a time management book...I would read it!

Thanks for the giveaway!! One can NEVER have too many beads!!

  21. Wow - what fun!

Do you ever dream your necklaces and bracelets complete and then just make them?

Do you have trouble falling asleep sometimes because of all the possibilties running through your head? ( Hamster brain...)

Do you get anxious and feel incomplete if you don't check your Etsy/blog at least once a day?

    Do you have a laptop?

    Great post/giveaway!

  24. Great idea to get a bead shop involved with the ABS challenge.
You are going to be answering a lot of questions by the looks of things. You may not be able to answer my question because it may be classified information, but I will ask anyway. Is there a book you would like to write, if so what would be the focus.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I don't really have a question and I don't really need to win those beads, because BeadBead is already my favorite bead shop. Sab is a wonderful person and a sweet friend - I'm sure you agree?

  29. Hi, My question has probably been answered by you before, but I am relatively new to reading you blog (and LOVE it by the way!). I have seen lots of posts of people from whom you get art beads and cool bits and pieces, but I am wondering where you get you awesome findings, like some of the bead caps and spacers etc. Thanks for the opportunity to ask!

  30. Lorelei I loved the way that you combined textures and forms... its amazing, where do you learn it?

  31. Hi Lorelei,

I think people have asked you just about everything...

I'm wondering how you find the motivation to blog every day (or nearly every day). I've been a fan of your blog for quite a while and you've always got something to write about or some cool project to share. I'm amazed.

Also, how much time would you say you spend writing the blog, photographing your pieces and posting to Etsy? Where do you find time in your day?

    ReplyDelete
  32. My question...

Why do you keep torturing me by finding great and exciting new places to spend money on beads???

haha...Really, you know I love your work and your blog...Do you stop and think a lot about what you write beforehand, or do you just kinda let it flow?

    ReplyDelete
  33. This is a fab giveaway! Soooo my question is, out of all the art beads you own, which artists beads do you currently own the most of? I think Heather Powers/Humblebeads is what I have the most of right now in my stash.

  34. What's your favorite restaurant? When you go there, do you order the same thing, or do you like to mix it up? (I'm trying to see if all beaders are slightly OCD or if it's just me.)

  35. Hi Lorelei,

What a fabulous give away. I love your idea of the beads going with the ABS Monthly Challenge.

    My questions are:
How do you find out submissions to bead magazines?
Do you have pointers on the kind of photos to submit to the magazines?
What suggestions do you have for newbies on submitting works and drawing people to your blog, Facebook, Etsy sites?

I don't know how you find the time in the day to do everything, but I am glad you do because everything is so WONDERFUL!
    Thanks,
    Beth

  38. My birthday is next week and these beads would make a nice birthday present (lol). When you first started out, how did you go about getting feedback on your work? Have you submitted pieces to magazines, etc that have not been accepted and how did you determine what would be accepted - luck? trial and error?

Love your blog - I learn something new everyday!

Your work is so wonderful! Love the use of color, texture and shape. How many hours a day do you get to play with your beads.

And, I would love to see a pic of your bead stash!

  41. i love the rhythm of your designs,
    my questions are
1.what type of wire did you use for wrapping when you first got started in jewlery making and have you upgraded to a more expensive wire now.
    2. packing and shipping:
what is your shipping turnaround..do you only ship on a particular day
    b. do you have a fav seller for little craft jewelry boxes or thoughts about packing in general.

  42. First off, let me gush a little bit and tell you how much I LOVE your work! You provide so much inspiration -- and your creations are amazing. Looking at your finished pieces, it seems like they just sprang from your hands absolutely perfect, but I'm sure there's a lot that goes into making them that way.

To that end, I'm curious to know more about your creative process and how you edit your work -- specifically, are there points along the way that you know you've made a mistake or gone in the wrong direction? Any advice for when to just scrap something or how to tell if it can be fixed?

    ReplyDelete
  43. Hi,
I really like the chains you are using! I know you use a lot of copper and brass but how about those nice matte darker silvery ones i see every now and then. I would like to know if you ever oxidize your metals yourself, or do you buy them already oxidized? I just recieved an envelope from patina queen with wire, thanks to your advice an the button video. Will open it now! Exciting as always!!!

  44. I'm wondering how many hours you spend searching etsy every day?

What is your biggest challenge in designing jewelry?

What do you like least about being a jewelry designer/etsian/blogger?

What item do you always have in your fridge?

    ReplyDelete
  45. I am a huge fan of your work and have been for some time. You are so creative. The beads are wonderful - what a great give away-would love to win. What type wire do you work with?

Oh how I would love to win some beads! And the opportunity to ask you a question? Awesome!

I could ask a ton, but I'll just ask this one for the sake of space.

What gauge copper wire do you most use for those beautiful clasp S-Hooks and that awesome wire wrapping you do on bead links?

  47. Hello Lorelei! As one of my favorite jewelry designers, I'd like to know how you got started. What inspired you to begin designing jewelry, was it beads that you saw and admired, a love of jewelry, or something else?

Thanks for all you do, Juliette

  48. I want to know whats up with all the new fabrication techniques you've been trying. Resin, riveting, now you're looking for a disc cutter. Are you just expanding your skills or is there a specific reason for all this new stuff?

  51. You are so courageous to open yourself up to any questions, more of us should be like that! When I first tried signing in to Google, not always our friend, there were 17 comments, and by now I think my question will be answered, But anyhoo, what is your start to finish design procedure, when the beads just aren't coming together for you? It looks like that never happens, but I'm just asking :) Thanks!

  52. Lorilei,I would like to know how much you spend on artist beads, and how much do the beads that are given to you cost?I'm not putting that right, but a great many beads are given to you,for various reasons. How much do you spend?I have a serious collection of art beads, and I'm always broke, how do you do it?

    Do you do shows?

  55. Lorelei,

I found your blog last year, but don't really know if you were selling on Etsy before then. Which came first, the shop or the blog?

Do you buy beads for specific projects or do you buy beads, then find projects for them?

    ReplyDelete
  56. I have to chime in, I love your style and your jewelry! (Oh and I love your recent trend with showing videos, it's so much fun to see how you create!)

As for my question, it may have already been asked, but I'm curious what techniques are on your "to learn" list?

    Thanks!

  57. I love how you're always trying new things. Recently it's the dapping block. What made you pick metal over a wood dapping block? What do you want to do with what you dap? Also where do you find all those beautiful lucite flowers you've been using lately? Are they from your recent trip to England?

  59. Love the idea to ask questions.

I agree with some others... how do you price your work, how do you iventory all those beads and keep track of where they came from, or were made by who? I find it difficult to keep trak of my few bins.

Okay, that was prolly more like 3 or 5 quesstions all rolled into one.

  60. I feel fortunate to have stumbled upon your blog. What an inspiration you are, and so generous with information and resources.
    Two questions:
    1. What made you decide to start doing video tutorials. Love them by the way and 2. How often do you change your blog banner? Is it a marketing thing or you just can't make up your mind?

  61. Hi Lorelei! I love your blog (it's one of the first I go to in the morning) and I'm so glad you're sharing this giveaway with us!!!

My question is: when you first started making jewelry, did you take classes or read books about jewelry design? Do you have specefic classes or books you would suggest to jewelry artists who are just starting out?

    Thanks!

And if you were stranded (some place really great) what one beading book or DVD would you have with you?

  63. I know you have a day job and mainly bead at night;

so how many pieces do you say on average you complete a day?

how do you balance that time with relaxation with hubby?

and what time do you quit and go to bed?

Thanks for offering this lovely giveaway.

  64. Wow! Yet another great giveaway on your blog! Most questions have been asked, but I would like to know if you listen to music while you bead and if so what music. And, are you also still selling your work at the art museum where you work, or have you given that up for etsy?

  68. I love your blog I turn to it almost everyday.
I think everything has been asked but...
What would you say was the key to getting so many followers on your blog?
What would you say to emerging jewelry designers to help them reach their own success (like yours) and find their own signature style?
How did you get your designs into so many books and magazines?

    ReplyDelete
  69. Fun! I hope to be able to get my act together and actually make something for the ABS challenge this month.

When you have a design in mind, do you sketch it on paper or does it stay in your noggin until you create the piece?

  70. Hi again, so much fun reading everybody's questions. It will be a joy to read your answers.

I have another one I just came to think of:
In your own opinion and words - what is it that makes your designs and your style special and unique? What is the Lorelei-eskisity, what does it consist of? Looking at your own stuff as if it was not made by yourself.

    Today's word MUST be Lorelei-eskisity! Mustn't it!?!

I want to know the answer to all of the questions. Would love to sit down with you and a good glass of wine and talk all night. But what I would like to know the most is how you got over any nervousness or downright fear and started you business. Please!
