Meeting new friends

Kelley, Me, Laurie

What a blast I had last night! I met up with Laurie Whitney of Mermaid Glass, and she brought along another friend, Kelley Kirk who also sells on Etsy at Gongy and Squish! Two girls, intelligent, crafty and FUN- we all got along smashingly and I can imagine we would be quite the team of 3 if I lived a bit closer.
We chatted about Etsy, and blogging, and crazy Etsy experiences. But also talked about our families and their kids, and one question that sticks out in my head, that Laurie asked me last night is, "How do you do it all, work, blogging, updating your shop, promoting your shop! How do you do it all!" And all I could say was " I don't have kids!" It makes a big difference. I really don't know how I could continue at this caliber if I had children. It'll happen eventually, and we'll cross that bridge when we get to it- but it just made me realize that this probably won't last forever, so I am going to enjoy the hell out of it while I can!

I am looking forward to my beady date this afternoon with Lisa and Layne. I think we'll have a blast- I will absolutely photograph the occasion.

Hope you're all having a great and creative week! Stay Cool!

  2. You are so right Lorelei, Natalie is going to be 16 this summer and I have just started to rediscover my interests. All of these wonderful experiences will make you a better Mom.

  5. It was so great hanging out with you and Laurie last night...and commiserating about all things Etsy!!

  6. It was fun! I'm so glad we were able to throw it together and meet in person.

BTW, kids are great. You can blame all kinds of things on them. ;)

  7. It is hard to imagine fitting in all the parts of your busy life when kids come along - but it helps me decide daily what's really important (time with family, left over time with beads, some attention to the job that pays the bills) and what's not (cruising the mall, cleaning my house, etc). I always wish for more time, but I wouldn't trade Emma and Michael for the world. And get this - some of my best ideas have come from Emma! (these frog beads would make a great watch, the moon clasp would look cool with a coyote charm...)

  8. I thought that was you I saw on the horizon! LOL I'm 90 minutes away in St. Pete and I so wish I could come up there to meet the one and only Lorelei ... but alas too much work! Have fun now ... you've got the right attitude!

Yes, kids take a lot of time and energy, but I'd agree with the other posts that what you get in return more than makes up for it. And I can't tell you how much I love it when my son (age 9) asks me if he can bead with me (definitely not much getting done on my end on those afternoons though).

With all the great beading that you do, I'm curious if you ever do the craft show scene? I'm a little overwhelmed thinking about all that goes into it, so just wondering if that's a direction you've explored.

  11. What beauties you all are! And what fun!
I can attest that it will absolutely make a difference when you have children (and I know you will and you will be a dynamite mom!). It changes your perspective on what is important. But I also think it forces you to do your best work...and sleep is highly overrated, if you ask me! That is why my jewelry is my 9p-1a job!
    Enjoy the day, Lori!

  13. Looks like so much fun! We've got to figure out a way for you to get out to California! Oh, and the kid/craft thing? You can do it. You just become an EXPERT in multi-tasking. Like when the Domino's Pizza person tells me "you have 30 minutes"...I know I've got that long to get Etsy updates done or photos taken.

  14. Laurie doesn't have a necklace on. Lorelei you must adorn her immediately

  15. So glad you are having such a great time!! My children are all grown up and live on their own so if you don't wait to long too to have some you will have another stretch in your life with this kind of time. I spent many years wishing I had more time to create. I love my life right now and I am making the most of it!!

  16. When the time comes you will love motherhood. Kids bring a new perspective into your life and make you more creative with your time and art work.
