No Shame, Tornado Hit, Absolutely a Freakin' Mess BTW
...and i wonder why i feel so discombobulated lately. This might have something to do with it. i can't find anything in this damn mess. i need a better system. i know this. but to think about reorganization right now in the middle of everything else i'm doing, makes me want to weep.
this is definitely the worst it's ever been. and i know it's not as bad as it could be, but for me, this is bad. as bad as it gets. it can only get better, right? eventually things will slow down and i will be able to reorganize and install some wall storage that will get stuff off the table tops. that's my goal.
now, if you'll excuse me, i'm going to leave this mess.

Hi Lorelei this is a surprise for me to see this mess you have! I always for some reason thought you strung with such organized neatness! My table is in such slob mode right now.
ReplyDeleteHey Lorelei, that isn't so bad. Really it isn't! But I know that a messy studio can be frustrating and dampen your creativity.
ReplyDeleteI want everything to be out where I can see it and be inspired, otherwise I forget about it and it might sit there for months or years. This makes for a very messy space. Even worse, my 'studio' shares a space with our recycling containers and also serves as our dining room and the room for my home shows. Talk about messy!!!
mine doesn't look that good on it's best day :)
ReplyDeleteLOL ..yeah..creativity ...it ain't pretty LOL. I have to say I got those plastic boxes after seeing them here and they are waaay better then the damned shoe style boxes or hanging them everywhere. I grew up with a hoarder...this is nothing that can't be fixed! XO
ReplyDeleteHappy Wednesday : )
Like the mom in "Zits" this morning I fantasize about more storage space. There never seems to be enough. But I think if there was my work space would always look like a tornado hit it.
ReplyDeleteBut I know what you mean, every once in a while you have to slow down and reorganize everything just to maintain your sanity.
My world looks a bit like this lately and it's not confined to my bead table :-( And looking at other comments, doesn't look like we're the only ones. What is it with something so small as a bead that it can take over everything? It is one of lifes great mysteries.
ReplyDeleteHi Lorelei, don't beat yourself up too much hon, i'll bet you know exactly wehere everything is. i have those stacking 3 drawer bins and i take the lids right of my trays of beads it works out great cause my trays are the same width as the drawer. When i'm creating a piece i use ice cube trays and i can easily go through each drawer to find components. I use to organize by color but know i organize by style of component except seed beads. & Miss Lorelei you must be doing something right because you sure create wonderful artistic pieces ttfn L:)
ReplyDeleteDoesn't look that bad, actually. I've seen way worse! I know reorganizing isn't the funnest thing to get started with, but it will be something to look forward to when your space is all redone! I know you'll love the peg boards. I still have a long way to go with my space too. I haven't had time to organize ANY beads yet. It's driving me crazy! Oh, I wanted to tell you I picked up an old printer's tray last weekend! It was a lucky find at this cute little shop in downtown Salem. Can't wait to put all my special beads in it. It needs some cleaning up first, though. Hopefully it will be my project for the weekend!
ReplyDeleteLorelei, I feel your pain, I truly do! For me, creativity seems to breed chaos, but I really don't like the feeling of living in such chaos. I get anxious. But honestly, your room, even in it's current state, is so enviable!
ReplyDeleteI understand your frustration! I need to get one (or two) of those peg board organizers, too. That way things will still be out and be seen, but not all over the place. :)
ReplyDelete"Behind creative people is usually a mess", that's what my mother always said to me. There is a lot to be said for being neat and tidy, but being creative is a lot more fun!! I agree with the other comments, you certainly produce beautiful pieces from your so-called mess! Have a great day! :)
ReplyDeleteI feel your pain! :)
ReplyDeleteActually, this looks disturbingly familiar -- for a minute, I thought you'd taken a picture of my own disaster area. Yeah, been there, stacked that...
ReplyDeleteThis looks much like my table right now...I can feel you!
ReplyDeleteNot enough time in the day or enough great storage options for beaders! I really wish someone would design some new modular storage options for us for all our tools, wire, beads and beloved "junk" to be at our fingertips!
mine is definitely worse. spent an hour on Sunday trying to clean up and you couldn't even tell a difference.
ReplyDeleteIt must come with the territory. We all have soooo much stuff and for me I get a lot of it out when I am designing and I have a small edge on my work table to work on. It is nuts, I don't live that way in the rest of my house. I have a wall storage and all those containers belong in it. I take them out to get to stuff and before I know it my floor, my desk drawers are open and holding containers. Oh well in a perfect world.
ReplyDeleteIt's not a mess, it is a creative process. My bead table looks like that some days too so you are not alone. Yes, it will get better :)
ReplyDeleteNah. Creativity works in mysterious ways. Sometimes you just feel like creating, even in your mess, and other times you feel the need to organize again. I wouldn't be hard on yourself. It's the bead flow :)
ReplyDeleteOh- and something I've been looking at too- have you checked out www.bestcraftorganizer.com? They have cabinets of little drawers for beads. Kind of like an old printing press drawer set but modern.
ReplyDeleteNo tornado - nope. It's the sign of a busy woman! I know, I have a similar residue of fabric in my sewing room. Love your blog!!!
ReplyDeleteHave you ever seen my desk Darling?
ReplyDeleteI laugh at your puny little mess!
Take a break, get some air, and realize that the "huge mess" isn't so bad at all.
ReplyDeleteIf you want to see a REAL huge mess, come on down. You might begin to weep for me. ;-)
Looks familiar to my working place...
ReplyDeleteMessy but with great out comes!
ReplyDeleteOh, it´s normal. If you work, it have to look like this!
ReplyDeleteWhen I see pictures of beautifully organized and appointed studios I become so envious--but it is just not reality for most of us. I tend to get out a mess and then as I finish that project, I have the next creative idea already hatching in my head--no time to clean up. Must. peruse. new. idea. NOW.
ReplyDeleteOh-boy if you call that a mess I am not sure what mine would be called but I do have some amazing accidents that I would never have thought to put together had they not been jumbled in a heap :)
ReplyDeleteI know. I know. It does make you want to cry. My mess is honestly so much worse but I know youbare doing so much work in your studio and my muse has keeled over! Take a breather. Hire a high school student with a good brain to help.
ReplyDeleteIt will get better!
Fondly,
Suz
My space looks something like your's right now, except I don't have quite as much "stuff". Wish I did! I'm in the middle of organizing mine, again, and again, that's an ongoing process for me! Take heart...this too shall pass!
ReplyDeleteJackie
I'm so there with you. I think at least 50% of my recent beading funk has been due to sheer disorganzation of the beading area. Even contemplating cleaning it up is too much for me to handle given everything else that's going on!
ReplyDeleteHang in there - maybe we can challenge each other in the future (when things calm down) to jointly get our spaces under control. 'Member when we went on the bead diet together? That worked well (okay it worked well up to a point LOL)!
