Cone Challenge Reveal
Welcome to the Keirsten Giles Cone Challenge blog hop! If you remember, a few weeks back, Keirsten sent me a selection of her handmade copper cones. We picked 5 participants randomly, and the object of the game was to build something fabulous using the cones. Today we are revealing our designs! I am giddy with excited to see what people have done.
I must admit. The last several weeks have been crazy busy and I did not sit down to create my piece until last night. I know. I know. It's not that I was being a slacker. Ok some days I was being a slacker.
But we went away on vacation. I went to Raleigh for 3 days. I have been in and out for the last few weeks with no solid time in the studio.
So my point is. My piece is not all "unique and fresh and totally wild and wacky". I told everyone to use their imaginations with their cones and I couldn't really come up with anything too fabulous I'm afraid. It's just pretty typical. I'm sorry. I hate it when I suck as a role model.
I used my cones with some beautiful hand-dyed acrylic flowers from Heather French of Vintage Meadow Artworks. I had been hoarding these flowers for a while. I wire wrapped the flowers using copper 20 g wire. I spiraled the wire on the inside of the wire. Instead of bunching them (my original un-original idea) I did get a bit crazy and linked the flowers together using copper jumprings by attaching the jump rings to the wire stamens. I added some matte aqua glass ovals with simple loops and jump rings and created a handmade copper wire hook clasp.
My cones were a bit different than the others in the group Keirsten sent. Mine have sweet little wire poseys around the bottoms. I capped the flowers with the cones.
Be sure to check out the other five participants' blogs to see what they created. I have a feeling you're going to see a lot of really cool things made with these! Warning: Keirsten mostly makes her own components for her own jewelry designs. You may or may not find these cones and other components regularly in her etsy shop.
