Week 2 and Show Prep

Today starts week 2 in my new jewelry career. Last week flew by so fast, as I was busy with the Christmas swap preparations, and mentally preparing myself for a funeral. We drove down on Saturday and attended the memorial service for Aunt C. It was bittersweet- getting to see family that I hadn't seen in years and having to say good-bye to a pivotal person of our family.  But we got through it.

Came home and Sunday I spent the day decking the halls with my love.  It was wonderful to work together in making our house festive. We are hosting a christmas party for friends in two weeks, so we tried our best to make the house beautiful.... decorating the foyer, living room, dining room and family rooms.
This week I'll be busy doing some major top to bottom cleaning, room by room.  There is so much that I have ignored the past few years. In addition to all that, I'll be preparing for the Indie Garage sale which is this weekend!

I have a new plan.... tell me if I'm crazy. Instead of having a TON of jewelry, all different in designs- I am going to be picking out some favorite and popular best selling designs and creating collections around them.  So that when someone comes to my single table booth (I'm used to having 2 tables) there will be smaller collections of like-minded designs.  For example, I'll have a selection of chunky lucite and art bead necklaces, mixed media house and home bracelets, charm necklaces on chain,  long necklaces with layered pendants,  and some Harbinger Collection tin pieces.
I'm going to work up some stuff today so I'll share some photos of the collections here tomorrow. I'm thinking it will create a more cohesive look at my booth, and result in more sales this weekend.  We can only hope!!
What are you'all working on today?

  1. Your house looks beautiful. I think your approach to your booth and designing collections sounds great. I'd enjoy shopping that way. Good luck with it and let us know how it goes.

  2. So sorry to hear about Aunt C. Your home looks beautiful! I say go ahead and try your new idea of collections for your upcoming show. You never know unless you try, and I think that focusing on just a few ideas eliminates some of the stress.

  3. I like selling in collections myself. That way, people seem to gravitate toward a design they like, and then pick out their favorite color. I hope you have a great sale!

  4. Sorry about your loss. But it is good that you could be with your family during this time. I think your home looks so cozy. I am working on that. Right now it looks like a bomb went off because new cabinets are coming on Wednesday for a mudroom redo we are working on. I think your idea to offer collections is great. That is something I would like to do as well and only do so in a limited capacity. But only working on this from 9-midnight each night leaves little room for thinking of that stuff. I will eagerly watch where you take this. I think you are on path to a grand launch! Enjoy the day. Erin

your house is looking very festive..I hope you will enjoy being self employed.. I've been for over 20yrs..
the idea of collections is really good.. I've seen your customers request like kind pieces, of previously sold items, pretty often..profit margin it's smart too.

Hello, I think your blog might be having browser compatibility issues.

When I look at your blog site in Chrome, it looks fine but when opening in Internet Explorer,
it has some overlapping. I just wanted to give you a quick heads up!
    Other then that, fantastic blog!

  7. It's hard to get a balance, and I think your 'new life' as a full time jewellery designer will allow you to do such things. I often think about making themed collections, but I simply do not have the time. I have many ideas for such like whenever/if ever I do have the time! I will look forward to seeing photos of your collections and booth set up :-)

  8. And gosh, so sorry I went straight onto the jewellery there with my thoughtless commenting! So very sorry to hear about the death of your Aunt. It is so hard to lose a loved one, and funerals are exactly as you describe - bittersweet. Even the funeral for some of our best friends' babies last year - an absolutely heart breaking tragedy - felt good to be with friends and family, and to be able to take care of those grieving. I hope you were and are all able to be there for each other. x x x
