Vintage Spools
My Momma gave me a few of her vintage wooden thread spools last week when I went to visit her. She had seen some jewelry on Facebook that someone posted of spools that were decoupaged with print and she thought I could do something fun with the ones she has. So I started a little Spool collection....
The trip to see her also resulted in a trip to the fabric store so that Mom could spend her gift certificate that I gave her for Mother's Day. I ended up getting some pretty Batiks for myself and ripped some strips of it.
I wrapped the fabric strips onto the spools for these 3 pieces, and really love how they turned out.
I did the first one and threw on some nickel bead caps, and dangled a SwoonDimples pendant beneath it that was a perfect color match to the batik fabric.
I used a grey/blue fabric on this spool and found some coordinating Wooly wire to wrap onto some thick 5mm leather cording for this bracelet design. To secure the wooly wire, I just wrapped the ends with some darkened steel wire.
Am absolutely SMITTEN with this last necklace. I used the coral/orang batik and the same natural colored 5mm leather cord but also added these awesome porcelain cube beads from Round Rabbit Extra. To add a little extra space between the beads, I twisted some copper washers with my pliers to give a more 3-d effect.
These are all available for sale in my webstore.
These are so unique! They all turned out great!
ReplyDeleteYou've got a smart momma! I love things with spools, and have some waiting to be used in creations.
ReplyDeleteI adore them! I"m also wondering how it would look if you 'painted' the edges of the fabric and the very edge of the spool in a coordinating color? Just to highlight, you know? Or tea stain the fabric...wow, the possibilities!
ReplyDeletelovely ! and very unique :)
ReplyDeleteGreat minds think alike...I have a similar idea! Now what.....hmm.
