Unexpected Findings Book Tour

Welcome!!

Today I'm reflecting on a pretty cool project that landed on my doorstep in 2014. I was offered a contributor spot in an upcoming jewelry book written by my own book editor, Michelle Mach. She was a fantastic editor for Bohemian-Inspired Jewelry and I absolutely adored working with her, so I knew that I didn't need to hesitate about her upcoming project! Unexpected Findings: 50+ Clever Jewelry Designs Featuring everyday components is officially out in stores and online this month!

What's the book about?

Michelle did an amazing job showcasing several contributors who have a knack for using findings in unexpected ways. You don't always have to use a toggle as a clasp, and have you ever thought about the outcome if you used a basic finding like a pendant bail or hook and eye clasp in a totally unique and different way? There are 50+ projects in this gorgeous book that will inspire you to start thinking outside the box when it comes to using different jewelry findings.

I guarantee you'll learn something fascinating and this book will be the book you grab first while working on your own projects this upcoming year.

I was fortunate to have several designs published and here are just a few that are included in the book:

Botanica

Use a lobster clasp as the FOCAL!

Owl at the Moon

A creative way to include bead frames in a design but without a bead in the centers!

Sweet
Soire

Bead cones don't have to always have corral bead strands, what about dangling crystals!?

A book/blog tour would't be as fun without a great little incentive eh?  Michelle has some prizes up her sleeve and here is how to be entered to win! Leave comments on my post, or any of the contributors book tour posts this week to be entered to win the following prizes:

Grand Prize
$50 (Fifty Dollars) Etsy Gift Card (1 prize)

You can spend this on anything offered at the many individual shops on Etsy.  This could be fabulous art beads, cool jewelry findings, a hand painted coffee mug, a knitted scarf ... whatever you want.  (Note:  Not all Etsy shops accept gift cards, so if you win, you may want to do a search for those that do.)

Fun with Findings Prize Pack

First Prize
Fun with Findings Kit (2 prizes)

You can win some of the exact findings used in the book, plus a bunch of other findings that I thought were cool. (I ran out of room to add all the page numbers to the photo!) Prize packs include everything pictured here: jump rings, head pins (handmade by Miss Fickle Media and C-Koop), filigree links, clasps (hook-and-eye, ball chain, lobster), bead caps, cord ends, and more!

Second Prize (3 prizes)
To play off the "unexpected" in my book title, three winners will receive a small mystery pack of findings (valued at $8).  No photo or preview ahead of time.  It will be a surprise!

Rules

This giveaway is open to all visitors except the book's contributors and author (me).  Contributors are welcome (and encouraged!) to comment, but won't be entered in the drawing.

One comment per person per blog post for a maximum of eight chances to win if you visit and comment on all eight book-related posts during the September 15-19, 2014 period.

We'd love for you to help us spread the word on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Pinterest.  No extra entries, but lots of good karma!

Michelle will contact the winners by email this weekend (Sept. 20-21) and post the winners here next week (Sept. 23).   Remember when you comment that we'll need an email address to contact you if you win.

I have to tell you that i really like how well you use asymmetry in your jewellery designs. somehow no matter how i try i always end up with a symmetrical design , I think i may have to copy a few of yours to get the hang of using asymmetry.

There was no way I was going to miss this opportunity to be part of Michelle's book. All of your designs in the book are great. I'm kinda glad you didn't share all of them because one of the projects you didn't share is my favorite and I can't wait to highlight it on my blog at a later time.

Have your book, Bohemian Inspired and will add this to my library also. I really like the lobster clasp as focal, sometimes when I order them, they are a lot bigger than I expected and they would be perfect for this. So hope to win! Debbie Freeland (dfreelandlgranch@gmail.com)

Wonderful designs as always! I promised my husband I wouldn't buy any more beads for a while since I am hoarding a huge stash at home. Great ideas to help use up all my findings in a new way! Thanks Lorelei!

  58. Lorelei, as always, I LOVE your designs in the book. One of my favorite parts of reading the book was going through a first pass and seeing if I could identify the designer before I saw her name. I admit that I occasionally get your designs and Erin Seigel's swapped, but I did alright! I'm so excited to be included with you and the rest of the amazing designers for this book!
Hugs, my dear & best of luck with your shows this weekend!
