Leave it to the experts!

T and I wanted to try out a new technique. We got together last night and had a little crafting session at my kitchen table. I had gotten my letter stamping kit weeks ago, and we were both itching to use them. Since I couldn't get my hands on any silver blank charms from Fusionbeads they were sold out for weeks, of course NOW they're back in stock.
We decided to try them on clay instead. We researched this process a little bit, found a blurb online about making them look vintaged using paint. But otherwise, we were totally winging it. I think they turned out okay, but nothing compared to the experts. If you want to see how it's really done, you can check out Heather's site. She is selling them on Etsy! Buy them, they are so beautiful! AND- check out Heather's Blog - tell her I sent ya!

The picture of my two, were the only ones out of the 6 that I did, that turned out halfway decent. There is a science to this process. And patience is the first thing one needs. Patience, however, is one thing I lack. :)

[disclaimer: I have no intention of selling these in jewelry designs, but was only trying out the technique]

Your bead pendants came out really cute! I have wanted to try stamping for some time now...it's the latest rage. What size stamps did you buy and did you get your stamps at Fusion Beads?

  3. Hi Norma!
Thank you! I got the stamps at EviesToolEmporium on Etsy. They were like $13! As opposed to Fusion where they are $50+. I had originally ordered a 2mm sized set, too small. I sent them back and I THINK I got 3mm instead. They might be a 4mm. I wish I could remember. If I think of it, I'll see on the case, if they are marked with their size.

Thanks Lorelei! I'll go check it out. I didn't want to pay a whole lot for the stamps just in case I didn't enjoy stamping. You are ALWAYS so helpful :-)

  5. I think Beaducation also sells the stamp blanks in a variety of different shapes and sizes. I don't know how their prices compare to Fusion Beads, though. I got my stamps from Beaducation and I paid a lot more than $13! I'm going to have to check out that Etsy shop!

  6. If you get one you really like, take a mold off it, so you can reproduce it easily - you can use the polymer clay to make and bake a mold, or 2-part molding compound if you want to be able to peel it away.
I like the little P-E-A-C-E stick.

  7. Hi Llyynn,
Thanks for the tip. I think I'm going to stick to jewelry design. I'm much better at it. I'll leave this process to people like you, and Heather, and Jennifer Stumpf and countless others, who have more patience and expertise at this technique!
Tara made the Peace stick. Cute right!?

  9. Hey Lorelei,

I saw your comment on Christina's blog about the Green Girl Studio's resin pendants. Someone asked Cynthia about them on her blog, and she told that person to contact her directly about purchasing one. If you're seriously interested in acquiring one, you should write to her! On Sunday, when I bought mine, several animal pendants were left and the unicorn. Just FYI!

  11. Hi Lorelei! Thanks for visiting my blog. I've checked yours out though Gaea, too. It seems you and I share an obsession with owls:)
I am crazy about that green "live free" charm! I know you weren't planning on selling them, but if you ever do, I'll be first in line!
