Enchanted Adornments Giveaway No. 3: Fairies
Cynthia Thornton, of Green Girl Studios, has written an amazing book called Enchanted Adornments: Creating Mixed-Media Jewelry with Metal, Clay, Wire, Resin & More, and it will be released on November 1, 2009! 
I am really excited about the release of this book because Cynthia and her family, are all amazingly talented and this book will totally rock the hizzouse. But not only that, I contributed a piece of jewelry for the Gallery section of the book, and am really super excited for all of you to see it!

The Green Girl Studios team, graciously donated 8 small packages of beads to be randomly given away, in honor of the big book release, to my little blog! How cool is that! This week will be the first of the 8 givaways. This THIRD package of beads contains 7 pewter beads/pendants, all in the FAIRY THEME! (Each giveaway will have a different theme!)

What imagery do you like using in your jewelry designs?
I always enjoy using bird elements and components in my work.

I like anything with wings that can fly. I love flying and have imagined I can fly above the trees and housetops since I was a child. If it has inspirational phrases or encouraging words on the back, that's an added bonus!
ReplyDeleteHhmm...This is interesting because I mostly work with seed beads. However, I will say that I particularly enjoy creating/integrating interesting and new patterns into my bracelets and necklaces. I'm most happy when I can create a pattern using with the beads as opposed to creating a flat bracelet with the pattern woven in. However, I do like nature images, flowers, leaves, etc.
ReplyDeleteI like using peacock elements in my work. Even if it is not specifically a peacock, I find that I am drawn to the colors of a peacock - rich blues, greens and browns.
ReplyDeleteHi L - I don't really use any imagery in my jewelry making - I tend toward organic designs for my own jewelry, but I'd have to say nature as well!

ReplyDeleteI seem to gravitate towards ocean, sea and beach designs for myself but these are lovely!
ReplyDeleteI do not usually pick an image,rather I use color and texture to create an organic look. Any imagry must fit within the color/texture profile
ReplyDeleteSo far I haven't really used images. The things I have made are more nature oriented - colors, etc - I love the greens of the mountains and blues of the ocean. On a personal level-I wear a lot of angels and fairies - they are my favorites.
ReplyDeleteEarthly designs are my thing when it comes to jewelry designing. I use a lot of nature images for inspiration for color palettes as well as for the textures I use to make my porcelain components...

I like cool feeling designs as in cool in color. They have a calming influence on me. Probably why I have tons of blue and green beads.

I guess i'm also a "hopeful" (not hopeless) romantic and love anything to do with Knights in shining armour.And I have to be an 80's girl and say I also still dream of unicorns. My favorite movie of all time is Legend with Tom Cruise, Mia Sarah & Tim Curry. It's a must see.
BECAUSE I MAKE MORE BEADS THAN JEWELRY I GUESS I GRAVITATE TO TEALS, AQUA AND LIME GREEN COLORS. I LIKE SILVER WITH THOSE COLORS AND I USE PATINA COPPER WIRE WITH THE BROWNS, RAKU AND ORANGE BEADS

Love the fairies! As you know, I love nature themes and earthy colors! Mostly woodland and ocean themes for imagery in my pendants and charms. I'm also quite drawn to circle shapes, too. I like using round shapes in my beads and jewelry.

ReplyDeleteMy work is based on more of the Hispanic culture and colors. I love fall rich colors. Mom uses more of the bright colors and we both enjoy making Day of the Dead items and beachy items when mom is in Florida;)

I like ocean-themed things: mermaids, shells, sand dollars, etc. the best. Close second is "magical" items like unicorns and fairies (because I am really just a 12-year-old girl at heart LOL)
ReplyDeleteI'm a butterfly lady - what can I say!!! I'd have a butterfly or dragonfly on everything I made if it made sense but I definitely love the idea of the grungy worm changing into the beautiful butterfly. Gives hope to us all!

Now that is a very good question...I like to use the beads and let them tell me where to go. I don't follow trends. And I aim to have a balance between wearability and expressiveness. I like to use found objects...so I would say that keys and keyholes and architectural elements show up a lot in my work. But I love to use natural elements as well. You are such an amazing inspiration Lorelei! I am so proud of all you are doing and all that you are becoming! Like that butterfly in the package...metamorphosizing! (Is that a word?!)

I like anything related to nature - birds are definetely one thing, but also flowers, fish, shells, dragonflies, etc. I guess nature is a very good inspiration for a lot of us ;-)

I want people to look at my jewelry and see something magical. Maybe they pick up a piece and think of elves or nymphs, maybe pixie dust or a mirage in the desert. I have two preschool girls who see everything as magic, so I get lots of inspiration by walking around my yard with them.
ReplyDeleteI have millions of buttons,new,old,and somewhere in between. I almost always put one in every piece of jewelry. I've also started to incorporate a little lace or fabric. Sewing was my first passion, so it feels quite natural to use these elements for me.

First off, love your work and your blog! In designing my pieces, which for the most part have yet to get online, I like to include at least one handmade (by me) bead, that way a little piece of me is included in each piece and then, hopefully, the good energy that I have used to create the pieces follows to the wearer.

I'm all over the place right now, trying to figure out what I like. But I do find myself drawn to either things that remind me of water - be it the ocean, a lake, a river. And, I have a lot of hearts in my stash, but haven't actually done much with them.
ReplyDeleteI love bright colors and the written word, but my absolute favorite is Alice in Wonderland. I use an image-transfer technique to create my fused glass pendants; the images fuse into glass in sepia tones--Alice lends herself well to this medium and looks perfect.

I love flowers and botanicals. Ferns, flowers, and trees inspire me through form, color, and texture. A lot of my work is wire wrap, but beading is my first love and even if I only sneak in a little flower charm to finish a clasp, I'm happy.
ReplyDeleteI am very mythic and symbolic in my choices. Mermaids, dryads, moon hare... spirals, crescents, leaves...symbols of nature dieties, and the feminine divine.
ReplyDeleteI love anything having to do with nature. Leaves, flowers, fossils my beads tend to look more organic. I am attending a Nina Bagley design workshop this Fall that will hopefully answer this question more accurately.

ReplyDeleteI don't really use a lot of imagery in work that I make. Like some of the other commenters, I tend to let the beads lead me along the way...I will have an idea for something (or even just a couple of beads I want to use), and I see what happens...
