Enchanted Adornments Giveaway No. 3: Fairies

Cynthia Thornton, of Green Girl Studios, has written an amazing book called Enchanted Adornments: Creating Mixed-Media Jewelry with Metal, Clay, Wire, Resin & More, and it will be released on November 1, 2009! I am really excited about the release of this book because Cynthia and her family, are all amazingly talented and this book will totally rock the hizzouse. But not only that, I contributed a piece of jewelry for the Gallery section of the book, and am really super excited for all of you to see it!

The Green Girl Studios team, graciously donated 8 small packages of beads to be randomly given away, in honor of the big book release, to my little blog! How cool is that! This week will be the first of the 8 givaways. This THIRD package of beads contains 7 pewter beads/pendants, all in the FAIRY THEME! (Each giveaway will have a different theme!)

This week I thought I'd put a twist on it- Answer this question when leaving your comment:

What imagery do you like using in your jewelry designs?
I always enjoy using bird elements and components in my work.
Birds are so magical and free, and I always want my
jewelry to make it's wearer feel the same way!

All you have to do to enter yourself to win, is leave a comment on this post!
I invite you to Please pass the word along on your blogs, Twitter, Facebook, or any other online venue of your choice, however, you will ONLY BE ENTERED ONCE by leaving a comment, on this post only. 1 comment per person will be counted. if you forget and leave 2 comments, one of your comments will be disqualified. (as long as I can keep up with that)
I will draw a random winner using the Random Integer Generator, on Monday August 31st.

Good luck to everyone!!

  1. I like anything with wings that can fly. I love flying and have imagined I can fly above the trees and housetops since I was a child. If it has inspirational phrases or encouraging words on the back, that's an added bonus!

  2. Hhmm...This is interesting because I mostly work with seed beads. However, I will say that I particularly enjoy creating/integrating interesting and new patterns into my bracelets and necklaces. I'm most happy when I can create a pattern using with the beads as opposed to creating a flat bracelet with the pattern woven in. However, I do like nature images, flowers, leaves, etc.

  3. I like using peacock elements in my work. Even if it is not specifically a peacock, I find that I am drawn to the colors of a peacock - rich blues, greens and browns.

  13. Earthly designs are my thing when it comes to jewelry designing. I use a lot of nature images for inspiration for color palettes as well as for the textures I use to make my porcelain components...

  15. Hello Lorelei,

Thanks again for posting the giveaway, I'd love to win these beauties. I don't often use a theme in my jewelry, except in my rosary bracelets, then I use crosses, but I'm hoping to branch out at any moment. The fairies would be a great place to start, don't you think?

Fairies & mushrooms & oh how I wish I could find more little gnome charms. I love woodland critters. I guess i'm also a "hopeful" (not hopeless) romantic and love anything to do with Knights in shining armour. And I have to be an 80's girl and say I also still dream of unicorns. My favorite movie of all time is Legend with Tom Cruise, Mia Sarah & Tim Curry. It's a must see.

  20. Love the fairies! As you know, I love nature themes and earthy colors! Mostly woodland and ocean themes for imagery in my pendants and charms. I'm also quite drawn to circle shapes, too. I like using round shapes in my beads and jewelry.

  23. Wonderful giveaway, and congrats on being published! I adore Green Girl Studio's work. Hmmmm...I think the element I most lean toward in my jewelry is texture and layers. I do a lot of metal work, and love the look of contrasting designs, layered on top of each other. Thanks for the chance to win! theroyalbead at gmail dot com

  24. My work is based on more of the Hispanic culture and colors. I love fall rich colors. Mom uses more of the bright colors and we both enjoy making Day of the Dead items and beachy items when mom is in Florida;)

I'm a butterfly lady - what can I say!!! I'd have a butterfly or dragonfly on everything I made if it made sense but I definitely love the idea of the grungy worm changing into the beautiful butterfly. Gives hope to us all!

  27. My favorite images, or things, to use when making jewelry are keys and escutcheons, especially if they are really old. Thank you for the giveaway, and your wonderful blog.

  28. Now that is a very good question...I like to use the beads and let them tell me where to go. I don't follow trends. And I aim to have a balance between wearability and expressiveness. I like to use found objects...so I would say that keys and keyholes and architectural elements show up a lot in my work. But I love to use natural elements as well. You are such an amazing inspiration Lorelei! I am so proud of all you are doing and all that you are becoming! Like that butterfly in the package...metamorphosizing! (Is that a word?!)
    Enjoy the day!

    ReplyDelete
  33. I seem to make a lot of floral/botanical pendants and beads. Dragonflies and butterflies seem to be inching into my work, which is tough b/c I need to make fall/winter pieces now!

    ReplyDelete
  34. I use a lot of vintage items like keys and buttons. I like my jewelry to have an antique look but not something grandma would wear! :)

    ReplyDelete
  35. Hmmm, I mostly use gemstones or lampwork beads paired with sterling or brass, but if I do use some sort of image, I lean towards birds, dragonflies or butterflies.

  43. I want people to look at my jewelry and see something magical. Maybe they pick up a piece and think of elves or nymphs, maybe pixie dust or a mirage in the desert. I have two preschool girls who see everything as magic, so I get lots of inspiration by walking around my yard with them.

  44. I have millions of buttons, new, old, and somewhere in between. I almost always put one in every piece of jewelry. I've also started to incorporate a little lace or fabric. Sewing was my first passion, so it feels quite natural to use these elements for me.

  45. Spirals and triangles are almost constantly showing up for me. Symbols of change, I suppose!

  46. First off, love your work and your blog! In designing my pieces, which for the most part have yet to get online, I like to include at least one handmade (by me) bead, that way a little piece of me is included in each piece and then, hopefully, the good energy that I have used to create the pieces follows to the wearer.

  47. Spirals and wings are my favs!! though it seems lately I've been creating hearts. Thanks for the wonderful giveaways and a great blog!

  48. I'm all over the place right now, trying to figure out what I like. But I do find myself drawn to either things that remind me of water - be it the ocean, a lake, a river. And, I have a lot of hearts in my stash, but haven't actually done much with them.

  49. I love bright colors and the written word, but my absolute favorite is Alice in Wonderland. I use an image-transfer technique to create my fused glass pendants; the images fuse into glass in sepia tones--Alice lends herself well to this medium and looks perfect.

I just can't wait for Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland--can you?

  50. I love flowers and botanicals. Ferns, flowers, and trees inspire me through form, color, and texture. A lot of my work is wire wrap, but beading is my first love and even if I only sneak in a little flower charm to finish a clasp, I'm happy.

    ReplyDelete
  51. I am very mythic and symbolic in my choices. Mermaids, dryads, moon hare... spirals, crescents, leaves...symbols of nature dieties, and the feminine divine.

    ReplyDelete
  52. I love anything having to do with nature. Leaves, flowers, fossils my beads tend to look more organic. I am attending a Nina Bagley design workshop this Fall that will hopefully answer this question more accurately.

    ReplyDelete
  53. I like juxtaposition in my work; it can be between the colors, the textures or the materials. I think it gives my pieces energy. Congratulations on having your work published!

  57. I don't really find myself partial to any one kind of imagery. I'm more inspired by color. However, I do think fairies are pretty cool. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  58. I don't really use a lot of imagery in work that I make. Like some of the other commenters, I tend to let the beads lead me along the way...I will have an idea for something (or even just a couple of beads I want to use), and I see what happens...
