Focus On Life: Week Two

Here we are at week two of Sally Russick's Photography challenge, Focus on Life.  It took me a full week to think of my word for 2013. I have thought of many appropriate words such as "independent" as now I'm working for myself, by myself.  Another perfect word would have been "Betterment" since I am concentrating on getting my mind and body back in shape. But then this morning, I walked by this guest room for the 800th time, peeking inside to see the mess that has become my life lately.

This room embodies my mind, my life, my thought process. It's cluttered.  Winter clothes have been pulled out, Summer clothes have been thrown in, along with clothes that don't fit me, seasonal items, clean sheets, bags and bags of items of things to get rid of, and donate to charity. Luckily, I haven't had anyone want to come and stay in quite some time.

This room gets like this a lot. I'm not sure why, or how. I just notice it all of a sudden.  When I left my job I told myself, I'm going to conquer organization. I'm going to clean out that guest room, every closet, my office.  I haven't been able to pull myself away from making jewelry yet to actually tackle this feat. But I hope to. And so, that's my word for 2013.  Organize. Organize my house. My life. My mind. My being.

  2. i think a lot of us have a clutter room..the ones that are never a priority..and of course doing the organizing isn't much fun..someone told me to allot 30 minutes a day to whatever project i found overwhelming in order to whip it into shape..i'm trying..
good choice for a word and congratulations on being self employed

  3. I couldn't help but laugh when I saw the photo of your quest room. Looks like a little bit of everything made it into that room! But you do have a very good excuse; you have been creating beautiful jewelry and inspiring others! I am with you on the word organize (I actually started out with that word as well but then changed it). I have been spending the first weeks of 2013 organizing my studio as it looks like a bead store exploded in it! ;)

  7. We all have this corner of the house! Just so many other distractions that are calling me that I want to do other than clean!

  8. Lorelei, my entire house looks like this...seriously! It's so bad I don't even know where to start. Maybe I need to rethink my word for the year. :) Thanks for sharing!!!!

  9. Lorelei: I've been following your blog/career for several years now and felt I should comment. Can you "organize" and keep create your art too? Since you left your job, your jewelry is even MORE fabulous (if that's possible). And I just got a copy of Stringing (winter?) to find what I think is a beautiful, artistic necklace with your name on it. The simplicity of it is amazing because it is just so beautiful -- those jobs tears seed beads with the lovely bird pendant with the touch of red. You are inspiring! Thank you for sharing your work and thoughts. My word for 2013 is:
    Mindfulness.

  10. Organizing sounds like a worthy goal. It's freeing to get rid of clutter and you can do. "How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time."

  11. Our extra bedroom is that way too. And so do all of the closets. Great word and good luck!

  12. OK, when you and your organize word are finished at your house, you can come by here and help me simplify!!!

  13. I can relate to this word and I am working on it!

  14. Your word is perfect and I can so relate to it right now! I have a "junk" room that I am slowly working on each night (actually the whole house because I hate the "junk" room). But I have a goal and I am keeping that goal in sight to be organized. Just take a little bit at a time and don't think you have to accomplish your organization at one time. Set one goal for yourself each day - I think that will be a little less overwhelming. GOOD LUCK!!!!

  20. Organize probably SHOULD have been my word! I have a room like that too. I keep the door closed except when I open it to put something else in there. Good luck with all the organizing plans!

  21. My spare room is the photo shoot /pendant inventory room. Dont we all have a little spot like that in the house? I spent the 1st week of the year doing a studio overhaul with new workbench. It was so cathartic! Just start small and you will feel the results!

  22. Lorelei, We all have one of those rooms! I looked at that picture and I swear it is like that photo was taken in my house! Good luck getting organized this year!

  23. I have a room just like that! :) Small steps, small steps. I look forwad to your process and end results!

  24. Boy do I hear ya. Lately almost every space feels like that to me and I can't even think straight. Good luck with your endeavors!

  25. I had to snort because I have this same room in my house, or closet, or studio! In our old house we had a room that was just like this. There was nary a pathway to walk in without toppling things. It would be a powerful start to tackle that room wouldn't it? Then take an after picture to spur your momentum. I have to do that with my studio. I want to create in there but the piles are keeping me out. So now I am taking over other parts of the house... the coffee table, the kitchen island, my bed. Argh! I love your word and your image. I wish you joy in the journey in 2013. Enjoy the day. Erin

  26. I almost chose the same word, but I realised I would never be organised til I got more focused, or maybe its the procrastinator in me. Still, half my house looks like your photo, the other half is worse!
